I want to give a big THANKS to all my TTL darlings out there who tuned in for my first ever LIVE Insta Story earlier this week to watch my sewing tutorial. Honestly, I was so nervous and your kind words and support meant the world to me…you are AMAZING! I know I breezed through some of the steps so as promised, here is my full DIY Sewing Tutorial: How to Take in Dress.

Sewing Tutorial: How to Take in a Dress

This video features my new by the way Lux off-the-shoulder dress that I scored at the Revolve Sample Sale. Unfortunately, it was too dang big but the dress is super cute and it cost me less than $40. For that price I figured it would be totally worth the extra effort to tailor and make it fit just right.

I’m actually a big advocate for having my clothes tailored. I mean, why should clothes only look perfect on models?! If you ask me, we should all be able to enjoy that perfect tailored look. Now full disclosure: 1) I’m not a professional trained seamstress or anything. Everything I know I’ve learned from being a mom and little trial and error. 2) I don’t always have time to tailor everything myself (that’s why I’ve got the best tailor in the Valley!). But when I can, I’m more than happy to save myself a little $$ and do the work myself.

Since I didn’t have to fly this week, I thought I’d use my bit of free time to put together a fun sewing tutorial for all of you.

Side note: Several of you have asked what sewing machine I use. It’s a Shark model that I bought well over 10 years ago and it’s not made anymore. So here are a few other options:

Brother XM2701 Lightweight
Brother cs6000i

I hope this will inspire you to give sewing a try. If anything you’ll save yourself some money that you can spend on other things…like more dresses! Be sure to let me know what you think of my sewing tutorial in the comments below. Also, let me know if you’d like to see more videos like this one!
